Background and Training
Mr Gaine qualified in Medicine in UCD 1985 and in Dentistry in TCD 1989. He worked in maxillofacial surgery in London, before training in Orthopaedics. He trained in Glasgow and Manchester, and was admitted to the Specialist Register of the Royal College of Surgeons (Orthopeadics and Trauma Division) in 2001.
He completed a number of fellowship training posts:
Hip and Knee Joint Replacement in the world-renowned Charnley Hip Centre – Wrightington, England
Hand Surgery Fellowship– Manchester, England
Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Fellowship, Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto, Canada
AO Scholarship in Lower Back Surgery and Back Pain Management – Brisbane, Australia.
He worked as a consultant in Scotland before returning to Ireland to take up his current Consultant post in the Orthopaedic Dept of Sligo University Hospital.
In addition, he has a Post Graduate Diploma in Law and a Master’s degree in Medical Law from Cardiff University, MSc Orthopaedic Technology and Rehabilitation from Dundee University, MBA from the Open University and Membership of the Institution of Directors
